Gay marriage is not only about religion, the basis of where religion comes from and belongs in a ';seperation of church and state'; country. But as long as it contains state benefits (visitation rights, inheritants...) it will also be a civil issue.





I believe that marriage should be only a religious right. Being that's what it is and where it came from. And should also drop all of it's civil and state conections. I think that the civil benefits should be a seperate entity of marriage that is applied for upon request - civil union.





Gay and lesbian couples can recieve every state and civil benefit of marriage through civil unions and domestic partnerships. Changing the definition of marriage will not give gays and lesbians anything more than what a civil union/domestic partnership will.
Its just that religious nut cases make the most noise about it. Also, most people are against gay marriage, but have no problem with some alternate form of union (e.g. civil union). They don't care what people do in the bedroom, but do care about the definition of marriage. SInce religious zealots are just blindly against both, they are easier to attack. 10% of the population are gay... how many are religious zealots? And howe many of those are gay? Its low hanging, um, fruit.
It usually is religious people that are against gay marriage. I would love to hear some arguments against gay marriage that do not go towards religion. I haven't yet.





Gay marriage is a civil rights issue. I'm in Massachusetts where gay marriage has been legal for a while. It's fine. Sex ed hasn't changed much from what I've seen. My kids seem to be handling the information just fine.





I'm not religious at all. I have morals and a sense of responsibility. I don't know where it comes from since it does not come from religion. I suppose it comes from my parents and being dyslexic. Dyslexics are said to have a strong sense of justice, right and wrong which certainly fits me. I relate responsibility and justice together.





I have some gay friends. One couple is engaged. I don't think it's a conscious decision that people make either way. I'm sure that some do but I think the ';real'; ones don't. It could be confusion b/c so much of what we believe is what we have been conditioned to believe and think. Most people don't like change because change is difficult.

Monica - I don't think it's your business. You can't control what people do in their bedrooms or their lifestyles. We have freedom in this country. It's not always easy b/c we aren't always going to agree but we should accept b/c we want to be free ourselves.
Denying a group of people civil rights is not moral. I have yet to hear an argument against gay marriage that doesn't come from a christian supremacist and the old testament.





Also, I would advise people to be careful about their gay hate speech they post here now that gay people are protected by hate crime legislation. You never know who might report the hate speech to the FBI.
I have never met or heard of anybody that is against gay marriage and isn't a conservative Christian. That's probably because there is no good argument against it that doesn't involve a 2,000 year old poorly-translated Middle Eastern holy book. Hey, Christians, guess what? Politically speaking, what the Bible says doesn't matter, because U.S. law is not based on religious concepts. So what if you think that all gay people will burn in hell? Then let them have their fun on Earth, before Ol' Beelzebub gets 'em!
What does morals have to do with sexual orientation?





Somebody's sexual orientation has NOTHING to say about a person's moral standing. A gay person can be perfectly honest, hard working, kind, trustworthy, truthful etc. or it can be a total jerk. In exactly the same way as a heterosexual person.
Good question. The fact is that if gay marriage were allowed, then it would be mandatory that it be taught as another choice to our children in the public schools; thats a real problem, not because of religion, BUT BECAUSE OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION who tells us repeatedly that homosexual behavior is one of the two main risk factors for hiv/aids AND A WHOLE LOT OF OTHER DISEASES AND DISORDERS.

Hiv/aids is at such epidemic proportions in the USA, that in the City of Philadelphia where there are lots of aids hospitals/hospices and so there are lots of gays, THE STATISTIC IS THAT IF YOU SLEEP WITH SOMEONE FROM PHILLY, YOU HAVE A ONE IN THREE CHANCE THAT YOU JUST SLEPT WITH AN HIV POSITIVE PATIENT.





Hiv/aids is now the NUMBER ONE KILLER OF BLACK WOMEN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16-34. It is a terrible health risk, and I guarantee you that when you are dying one of the most horrible deaths ever witnessed (aids), THOSE HAPPY-GO-LUCKY gay guys you see smiling in drag in the gay pride parades WILL NOT BE BY YOUR SIDE AT THE HOSPICE. They forget you once you are hiv positive because you would be detrimental to their gay agenda and getting laws passed so that OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE CAN DIE JUST LIKE YOU.





Its despicable. The gay lobby is full of the most cruel and selfish people ever known on Earth. Suddenly on the death bed, you see how quickly God seems to come into mind for many of them, because thats about all they have since the gay community could give a rats

If you think a loving, committed relationship between two consenting adults of the same sex is morally wrong, then you have answered your own question. Religion is the only reason to hold this view.
I have wondered that too. For some reason they believe that if you are against gay marriage or think that the gay lifestyle is wrong you are a religious nut.
