......liberal?

what does liberal mean?

ppl are always asking me about my views on politics and stuff and whenever i tell them they ask me if im a liberal......liberal?
It means your not a racist bigoted Republican or a Bushbot.

Liberals believe in the American Constitution and Bill of Rights as it is written.......liberal?
If you believe in the fairy tales told by Clinton and Obama, you are a liberal.
An American who wants the United States to be more Socialistic, like France for example. (Don't use the dictionary. The word 'liberal' and the political meaning of 'Liberal' are two totally different things.)
Liberals believe in the constitution and Bill of Rights. Well accpet the right to bear arms.....

And the right to freedom of speech when it's not what they believe. (ever wonder why liberal protestors are always crashing and shouting down speakers they don't agree with, as well as trying to shut down radio and tv personalities they don't like)

Freedom of choice as well unless you want to choose your own health care, food you eat, what your food is made with, who you can listen to on the radio, and how invest YOUR OWN money for retirement.
There are three main* political philosophies: conservative, liberal and Populist

The three value different aspects of government that they feel contribute to a stable society.

Conservatives value law, order, and tradition over all others, usually demanding obedience to patriotic and religious dogmas nearly to the point of nationalism. Tend to favor corporate interest and religious interest.

Liberals value equality in opportunity, and feel that equal access to the chance to make something of yourself is most important. They feel loss of opportunity contributes to loss of hope which contribute to crime.

Liberals also believe in personal liberty and freedom above all things.

tend to favor the working class and the environment

Populists value democracy over all things. They believe that all people should have equal representation in their government and equal power.

large range of views.

tend to be libertarians.

*actually dominant. there are more but these are the most abundant in the USA.
the biggest contradiction in the history

''liberty of property, and equal rights for everyone''.

there can't be liberty of property (my own right excluding everyone else), and at the same time equal rights for everyone.

liberty of property

liberty of speech

liberty of eating cheeseburgers fat saturated

liberty without responsability and consequences.

liberty with responsability, the empire of the law, are as big ideals as comunism.

believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights

believe...

believe...

and not observe for real

its another ideal

(hah i popped a rhyme!)
Those are the people who follow me when I play my flute.
I think this is a good way to view, my liberalism...

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Thomas Jefferson
All this refers to modern American liberalism:

There's economic liberalism and social liberalism.

Economic liberals generally want higher taxes for those with higher incomes, and want the government to provide welfare to those living in poverty and for social security etc.

Social liberals are progressive on different issues, like being pro choice, pro gay marriage, and pro immigration.

The opposites to all these would be more conservative views, but these issues aren't always black and white, its just a general way to describe them.
it means BEING CORRECT.
The opposite of conservatism....

Feel-good-ism.

Liberals generally determine their politics by how it makes them FEEL. If it feels right, if it feels good, then it's good politics.

Conservatives determine their politics by how they THINK... It's not what might FEEL good, but what is RIGHT for the society.

I'm sure others will give you other definitions, but generally this is a good rule of thumb.

Have a right-wing day.
Look it up in Websters Dictionary.

You'll find definitions like ';generous, broad minded, tolerant, favoring reform or progress.';

What does thumbs down mean in this case?

Are you so stupid that you don't know how to read words in a dictionary?

I didn't write the dictionary, I just quoted it.

Don't get mad at me if you're angry because you're the exact opposite of a liberal. Perhaps, you should consider being more tolerant, generous, or broad minded. Maybe you could be in favor of reform. Oh,....that's right, I forgot...that won't ever happen because your Conservatives.
