What can you do with a liberal arts major?

What jobs can you get? I was thinking about journalism, but I'm still just a sophomore in high school, so I guess I have time to decide what to do with the rest of my life. So my friend suggested going into the liberal arts, but I don't know what you'd do with something like that.

Also, if I was to go into journalism, how hard would it be to get a job at a newspaper? What can you do with a liberal arts major?
Flip burgers, teach liberal arts, custodian at a newspaper.

I think you would need a degree in journalism to get a REAL newspaper job. What can you do with a liberal arts major?
You should major in journalism if you want to work at a newspaper. Getting a job at a paper can be competitive. You'll probably have to work at a some weekly paper in a small town at first before moving on to a daily. The pay is terrible, but journalism can be a rewarding career if you're passionate for it.

To get a job after college, you should work on your college newspaper (work your way up to be an editor). You should also intern at a paper during the summers. You likely will not get paid for the internship, but the experience will be invaluable and it will help you get a job once you graduate.

As for a liberal arts major --- I don't think you can really major in liberal arts. Maybe I'm wrong. But, regardless, you should have a more focused major -- communications, journalism, etc.
You can do nearly anything you want with a liberal arts major, short of science and math specific careers.

As for landing in a job with a newspaper, it would depend on the popularity of the paper (job demand increases with popularity, as do the standards, and vice versa). Also, one would tend to think that you would have to do some freelancing before starting as a regular contributor.
Don't take liberal arts if you want to work in media.

Decide what you really want to do, and then take the course (after investigating what to take) to get there. Don't take a course because someone suggests it, take a course that will lead you to where you want to be.

If you do choose media - journalism take journalism, not liberal arts - you will not make the cut against others when applying for jobs if that is all you took - take something very specific to where you want to be - like journalism if that is what you want. or if you would like to pursue becoming a novelist, or book editing etc, then look at liberal arts, but don't stress you still have time.
If you plan on going into journalism you could also do a minor to increase employability. Maybe a foreign language, international relations, business, economics, etc. Just don't do something like journalism/women's studies/history/etc.

And yes, some colleges do have a bachelor in liberal studies, lol.

I suspect the competition for journalism jobs is stiff - you will need at least a Masters.

Thanks
