Bad behaviour? When a country sets itself up as the promoter of democracy and the rule of law it behoves it to set an example.





Vietnam? That's nothing, what about Honduras, Iran, Guatemala, Afghanistan, Iraq, Operation Gladio, torture, rendition, School of the Americas... the list is endless actually and winning hearts and minds is less about propaganda than about people judging on the basis of behavioural patterns and solid facts.





Anyway, don't pick on the liberals - a trip outside the USA will confirm that dislike for US policy (note that, not the people!) is widespread even among its allies.





The 'liberal problem' you allude to is only recognised within the USA - the rest of the world is proud of its democracy and tolerance, which is based on principles expounded by your own founding fathers...





It's a shame about the US education system or more Americans would know this for themselves instead of trying to debate without knowledge or facts! The opposite of liberalism is totalitarianism, something the US is slowly claiming as its political home turf.
It is not hatred. Jefferson said that there should be a revolution every ten years. He was very critical of not just the U.S. government, but government in general. This attitude is central to the American way of life. Cons have this attitude that if you are critical of the government you are a traitor. These types of people exist in all countries. These types run Iran, they ran Nazi Germany and Communist Russia. These people have no tolerance for dissent. When it comes down to it, they are the anti-American ones.
Educators with agendas (who were, themselves, educated by people with agendas) failing to teach core American political principles in the classroom because they see them as outdated or politically irrelevant in a globalist society.





100 years ago, the Libertarian values of limited Government and personal freedoms were mainstream. Philosophies like ';Socialism'; were considered to be fringe philosophies.





Now the exact opposite has happened - libertarian values are seen as ';kooky'; and ';fringe';, which Socialism is seen (or marketed) as the gateway to freedom...
Actually, you can answer this question in one word: Rush. He spearheaded the campaign to turn the word liberal into a dirty word. Back in those days he pronounced the word 'liberal' like he was throwing up at the same time. Oh course, it's the money people behind Rush that are the ones who drew up the battle plans in the campaign. Rush is their public face.
Liberals may be of the opinion that


the US government is simply a puppet in the hands of a section of people who have a lot of money/power and they simply want to enhance it and use it with out bothering about the majority welfare.





Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq.......it extends forward and backward with time for nearly a century....Those in power say that Open free MARKET is the source of strength of American economy. In actual practice it is the monopoly corporate giants who make every one else puppets. Democracy is made a mockery because of the huge money involved and controlled by a sharp minority.





What the Liberals don't realize is that still there is scope for correction and improvement, available not so much elsewhere.
Libs love America. Just not the America that says:


- You must be Christian to be called American


- You must support any war that the Bush administration perpetrates to be called an American


- You must support race hate talk and religious bigotry to be called an American


- You must be anti-intellectual to be called an American


- You must own a gun and belong to the NRA to be called an American


- You must be socially conservaitve and fiscally irresponsible to be called and American





When Obama wins in Nov, I guess it'll be the conservative's turn to ';hate America';.

When one has to work for something, it is appreciated and cherished. When one just receives something because it is their ';right'; (real or imagined), there is no appreciation for the effort required to attain it.

It comes from a deep down sense of guilt for being born in a country where you have basic freedoms and a high standard of living. They don't understand that we got this way by hard work and the blood of many soldiers. Any country can have liberty and freedom if they want it and fight for it. Likewise a country can lose it's liberty if they become lazy and the government becomes too big.





To Love is the Answer: Less than one percent of Americans owned slaves. I don't know what ';History'; books you have read either but it is obvious that you share the hate America mentallity. I don't feel guilty about slavery. My ancestors never owned slaves but they did fight to free them. You need to learn the facts before you attack someone.
Liberals have been demonized by the right wing. If you look at most of improvements in our society such as better work conditions, safer food, better medical practice, etc., you will find a Liberal of one sort or another at the root of it.
The USA is seen by the rest of the world as throwing its weight about. It is also true that most (the vast majority of) Americans have no knowledge of any country outside of their own.





Look at the mess in Afghanistan this ancient former Kingdom. The Americans forced upon these people a Wester style democracy which is extremely expensive to run. No heed was ever paid to the tribal elders. Result, the country is now bing run by gangsters.





It's not me saying that but the poeple of Afghanistan themselves.





Americans are so full of fear and ignorance that even those who are sent to UK on military service with the USAF seldom ever venture forth from their bases. What the hell are they here for? We're not the enemy. Are they just occupying the UK or what? WW-2 ended in 1945. Yankees, go home!

On the whole, the Americans are seen as lacking in culture and destroying other people's ways of life.





They have slowly mangled up my home town of London. It's now next to impossible to get a cup of tea for the blessed Star Bucks all over the place and the burger huts everywhere.

Uneducated useless liberals do not like responsible and hard working people. In America the latter group prospers, while in socialism they suffer. That is why liberals hate American liberties and embrace socialism.
Not sure but I don't think they really hate the US, but I do think that two sides have a very different idea on how to love the US.





Just an opinion from across the pond. I have friends in the US who are on many different sides of the political spectrum.
They've hated America since the days of FDR. That's the whole platform of the Democratic Party. So the root cause of it is irrelevant--it is the root cause of the Democratic Party.
Liberals don't hate the US. If they did, they wouldn't fight so hard to try to make it better.
