Do you think the Liberal Democrats have enough support to become opposition?

5 years ago it would have been unthinkable. But with the spectacular collapse of Labour, their reformist policies, an coherent set of ideologically based beliefs, a high national share of the votes, and an adept shadow chancellor who knows what is going on finance wise, do you think they could move into opposition and finally toll the death bells of Labour?Do you think the Liberal Democrats have enough support to become opposition?
Never read too much into local and EU election results.

For starters the turnout was less than 40% whilst a general election is more like 66%.

Second - Walels and Scotland didn't vote in the local elections and Labour have some strong heartland areas in both countries.

Also some will use the local and EU elections to register a 'protest vote' by switching to the Lib-Dems or one of the smaller parties but they revert to their normal party allegiance in the general election.

Labour are looking unelectable at the moment, then again so did the Conservatives in1992,Do you think the Liberal Democrats have enough support to become opposition?
Labour after abandoned Socialism , have not as yet found a coherent ideology to replace it, I would not be supprised if after an election defeat, the ';Blairite wing joned the Lib Dems, and a minority formed a left wing socalist party..

I would like to see a conservative Government with a working majorty of around 30 seats. with an effective Liberal Democrat opposition.
Who knows because at the moment anything is possible as Labour are in a state of near collapse, and after Sunday nights Euro results, come monday we may be heading towards a early election.

Myself though I think the Lib-Dems will give them a very good run for their money along with UKIP and possibly the BNP sometime late this year or early next year.
I asked just about the same question a few days ago.

We seem to be thinking along the same lines, I dont want the Lib Dems in power but I'd take them over Labour anyday. They aren't as out of touch as Labour are, Vince Cable is a great politician (and ought to be their party leader) and they believe in giving people more freedom, more say and the government interfering less in their lives. It's a shame they are so pro-EU.

I'd like to see it happen and anything that would stop Labour ever getting to power again would be a good thing but I'm not sure if it can happen.
Haha. Never.
Very much doubt it, and really hope not. Our local council has been Lib-Dem for years and they've been useless.
Never
