How can any liberal support sin taxes which is a regressive tax?

Whether it be drinking, smoking or pornography why should only the rich be able to enjoy these things? Why should a poor person have to quit these things or be strapped with more of a financial burden to enjoy such pleasures? How can any liberal support sin taxes which is a regressive tax?
FINALLY a legitimate point!

You are right.

It IS a regressive tax.

But, how could we change it?

One way is to lower nicotine content, which we are now able to do, thanks to Obama. That will make cigarettes less addictive %26amp; easier to quit.

As far as porn goes, there is plenty free on the internet. There is so much, it is hard to avoid.

Booze already has a WIDE price range, so it is the least of these evils. How can any liberal support sin taxes which is a regressive tax?
This is a pretty basic economic principle.

These products include a cost that is not taken into account by the purchaser. As such they represent market failures (aka Pareto inefficiencies).

Hence a tax can help reflect the real cost (whether it includes a cost to society in general or just one the individual does not consider) and so create an efficient market.

As for it being regressive - yes often that will be the case - that is why income taxation is progressive.
Look first they segregate smokers from the business environment. Instead of doing the right thing by giving businesses the choice to have smokers or not. And now they keep raising taxes on cigarettes. But I don't see taxes going higher for alcohol in my state. Nor do they try to tax the oldest profession on this planet which is prostitution. I know it is illegal but the occupation is still around and no revenue is brought in like all other businesses. The funny thing is in my state of Illinois they are raising taxes on cigarettes but also considering legalizing mary jane for medical purposes. Doesn't mary jane have more cancer causing agents in it then a simple cigarette? Or was the truth commercials a lie about being above the influence? I am against prostitution, mary jane and any other narcotics. And I don't drink alcohol.
I agree. I smoke and so far that is still my right, in my home, at least.

People in Kenya don't smoke, drink sodas or any kind liquor, the vast majority don't and these are items Obama has slated for more taxes.

Obama doesn't have a clue as to what America is about--part of it is

freedom of choice and not to tax some things out of reach for poor people.
Pornography getting taxed what? LOL who cares I'll get it free either way :)

Smoking causes a whole lot of health problems which racks up health care costs, plus I don't smoke so I don't care.

Drinking, in moderation its good, too much and its bad.. so hopefully there's a balance in tax in such a way that it doesn't bother moderate drinkers too much.

As for the poor people bit, nah you're not getting away with that ish stir-up mate :)
What dont they tax is the question? Currently they are even propoing a tax on CO2 ! Which in effect is taxing the very air we breathe !! THE AIR!!! now they are taxing us for daing to take a breath!! Do you see the arrogance in this ? The lust for domination and total control over every single human being ? As soon as a baby takes its first breath its being taxed until death by these people !! They are obvsiously all insane !
Obama the loser enjoys oppression. That is what he wants, America to be oppressed, thank you Obama bots for voting for this big two time loser.
Those are only three of the Big Taxes coming!! Bend over and take it like a good socialist party member should do!! Thats what Obama wants!!
Haha, yes the conservatives support family values...but don't they howl when the cigarettes, booze and porn get taxed.
Because inside they know these things are a drain on the system. And the system comes first, not freedom for individuals who make wise life choices and those who make unwise choices take responsibility for those choices.
