Whats the difference between liberal and strict construction?

I'm a bit confused. Liberal is a broad interpretation and Strict is narrow interpretation. Now, which is more open minded? Like which one is more open or sees things differently. I'm doing homework, and I have to see if the authors see the constitution more liberal or more loose. I know that they see it open minded and that it has different meanings, but is that liberal or loose?Whats the difference between liberal and strict construction?
Liberals want to maintain the status quo regarding civil liberties, trial rights, the right to privacy and a woman's ';right to choose';. That status quo was based on a more broad or liberal interpretation of the constitution and the idea that the constitution is a living document.

';Strict'; constructionists want to change all that, and roll back the clock to a mythical yesteryear. They claim they want to follow the exact words of the constitution, the intent of the founders of the US. They want to treat the constitution the same way that evangelical Christians look at the Bible: inerrant and unchanging.Whats the difference between liberal and strict construction?
Here's a real easy rule of thumb . . . a strict constitutionalist believes that it a power is not expressly numerated within the constitution then the country should not do it . . .

A person with a more liberal vision of the constitution believes that if the constitution does not expressly forbid it then it's o.k.

Everybody else is on a sliding scale between the two extremes
liberal means to speculate on the meaning

construction means as it means word for word as the founding father founded it the spirit

here is a example :

you write down your going to the store ';

a liberal will perceive this as meaning your going on vacation etc etc

a constructionists will perceive this as meaning your going to the store

this is why we need constructionists judges
Just make sure you don't run into a loose liberal.

Open mindedness is a liberal (socially) way.

The second poster is correct. There is a large difference between classical liberal and today's liberal - as much as yesterday's conservatives and neo-conservatives.
The authors of the Constitution were Classical Liberals, not modern day liberals. Big difference there.

Modern day liberals believe that the government should take care of you from cradle to grave. Classical Liberals believe in a limited government as outlined in the Bill of Rights.
The founders were ';sons of the enlightenment'; and were neither socially liberal or strict constructionists. Many were more worried about ';the noose'; than being loose. Read David McCollough's books on the founders, he's an excellent historian.
