Why do young people usually start out so liberal?

Then as they age and become more financially successful, SOME change and become conservative.





Why is this?





Perhaps because we are bombarded with liberal themes through Hollywood, the media, heck even Comedy Central now (Stewart/Colbert).





It is only as we age that we realize the true cost to these liberal ideas, and that it comes out of our pockets.Why do young people usually start out so liberal?
It is easier to dupe younger people because of their lack of worldly experience. Additionally, younger people have a tendency to be more selfish and self-centered which makes it easier for liberal politicians who promise they will give them everything they want if they get voted into office.





Younger people don't realize all of the strings attached to these promises and as these younger people get older, they begin to realize how much they've been lied to by these liberals.





The government doesn't make money, it only spends your money.Why do young people usually start out so liberal?
When you are young you are very idealistic, you tend to think you can change the world and wish to help everyone.





As we get older we realize that even though the ideals are noble it is simply impossible to implement and we also realize that people should help themselves, teach a man to fish and he eats forever, give a man a fish and he learns to be dependant.
Friend pointed this out just last night. If you look at the network media people most are liberal and have degrees from universities, then on the other hand the conservatives, like Hanity, Rush, and others don't even have a degree and made it the hard knocks way. He said it's the universities that are causing this, which I have heard before. The professors are mainly libs.





It makes sense and also the lady that mentioned working and taxes. When you work at an early age yo learn the value of a dollar and also the tax system and what it takes to pay for the roads, military and other things that keep are great nation running. Anyway I have the same take when I talk with the ones from certain areas. Take care.
I don't know how true this old adage even is anymore. I've always been conservative and I think my child will probably be as well. My parents always discussed political philosophy with me and I discuss it with my child.





I agree with you about the media influences, however, do not forget about public education and university.





Added: Tribeca, the conservative view is not at all ';jaded.'; The hope we have is in ourselves, not in government. Imagine how jaded a liberal will be at 50 when he finds out all government ever did was promise things it never delivered.
Liberal thought is really much more 'immature' than conservative thought. It wants others to take care of them as we would a child.





I am of the opinion that as people mature in their own thought processes and understandings they naturally become more Conservative. They idea of personal responsibility becomes more real to them.





Now of course not all people grow up and out of their juvenile ways.....
It's natural. When they understand it is their hard earned money the government is using to pay for those programes.


the good think is they frequently don't vote and that's a good think. Don't hold it against them unless they become old fools and stay in the Democratic party after 30 years of age.


I will not bore you with the Churchill quote, but the school system only teaches one side. Have ever tried to talk to a school teacher about the McCain or point out Obama's failings? Hold on for the screaming.
There comes a time in everyones life when they learn mom and dad can't take care of us and we need to make our own way.

This really holds no truth. I am far from the young woman I was. As are my friends and some of my family. We are considered liberals. more so than when we were young. I have no problem paying for the needs of the many. I don't think anyone should be hungry, sick homeless or uneducated. Unless they choose to be.I do have a problem with paying for wars, greed and avarice.
When you start paying taxes.....you realize you don't want the Government taking your money. You earned it- what gives the Government the right to take it.

Maybe we have more value in life then keeping our ';money';. Sure, if you can barley pay your own bills, that's fine but if people are complaining that they have to help someone out because they can not buy a luxury item as soon as they wish, that's a bit cruel. Some of us would like to help people.
Jesus warned us of this. Take care of you brothers and sisters from the bottom up. That Jesus, what a funny guy. Trying to talk his right wing christian followers to be kind to one aother. I say those CEO's deserve all the money. Stupid Jesus.
Don't know. But I'm a 36 year old college-educated professional who owns a home, has investments, and pays plenty in taxes. And I'm a liberal. So I would be careful about casting such broad generalizations out there.
Because they are innocent, naive, and idealistic. As we grow older we all become more cynical.
I've never been a liberal I joined the air force at age 17 when Reagan was our commander and chief. At that time just about everyone was conservative at least in the groups I hung around with.
Actually, I became more liberal with age, mostly due to the fact that I've seen the damage done by conservatives.
Its the indoctrination of our youth by liberal teachers that starts in elementary school.
Because that's the lamest generalization the conservative have been able to come up with.
The more money you obtain, the more corrupt you become.
Not afraid to ';question';. Sad the ';weak'; loose that gift.
because when you grow up you put away childish things.
They've had it SOOO easy and know so little. They keep getting bombarded with false information that is never refuted.





Then when they have to struggle to make ends meet and see the amount of money that is going to these corrupt jerks in office. They start to say, ';Holy Mother of God, the conservatives are right!!!';





YEAH, tax the rich... Wait a minute... Why did the price of food go up? Why did the price of gas go up? Why did... My God look at my freakin' paycheck it's gone DOWN and my taxes went UP...'; They said, ';Only the rich would be taxed...';





Pretty soon those idealist thoughts of save the rainforest, Ozone Ring, and the bugs on the endangered species list. They hit home and the mystical thoughts during youth escape when that certain someone starts hanging around...





Harrison Ford and Bruce Springsteen singing about the oppression of the Republicans lose all meaning when they see the donation of time and no cash out of their pockets.





When you look at the 10 room 8 bathroom energy eating house Al Gore lives in compared to Crawford, TX conserve water and natural resources 4 bedroom ranch style home that remains at 67 degrees due to water circulation process rather than HVAC. That ol Bush the Environmentalist Hater uses about 25% of what most houses use.





With Al Gore as most of the celebrities, it's BIG me, little you. You make the sacrifice, that's the way most socialists live. Two parties, those that have, those that have not.

Many people become jaded, fearful, complacent, greedy, resistant to change, without hope, as they become older. Thankfully, not all older people fall into those conservative ruts.
