“If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain.”
Sir Winston Churchill.
Who here has changed, if so at what age?How many people here were liberal and saw the error of their ways when having to pay taxes?
Not always liberal but was Democrat. I changed in my late 20's and early 30's I was in healthcare and saw what the Clinton's wanted to do to HealthCare and I started Paying attention. With that I noticed what taxes were being spent on and it made me even more aware and now I hate all politicians. How many people here were liberal and saw the error of their ways when having to pay taxes?
I began to change as I learned facts.
Specifically, what started my metamorphosis was gun politics - in my early 20s. As I learned certain FACTS first hand, I noticed the left was objectively wrong in virtually everything they had to say on the topic and in ways that were quite easily proved. Knowing, therefore, they were LYING to support their case I started paying more attention to other areas of politics and found this is the case across the board on literally every topic.
Take Primetime, for example. If he's 14, there's a small chance what he said isn't a lie. Otherwise, it CERTAINLY is.
tehabwa is a typical ';liberal,'; which is to say, not one at all. Like most ';liberals,'; tehabwa can be counted on to reliably vote for people who ALWAYS work against liberty and even SAY ON TV that they do so.
Stacies Mom exemplifies the same thing in a different way. Liberals LITERALLY toss their own politicians out of the party for having ';only'; 95% agreement. NOT doing that is called ';intolerance.';
You will notice NOT ONE person who claims to have changed TO liberalism is able to cite the ';epiphany'; that led them to do so.
There's nothing at all erroneous in valuing LIBERTY.
That Churchill said something doesn't make it true (and he was talking about Marxism, not liberalism -- you've got the quote wrong).
Why would paying taxes lead me to reject every notion of goodness I value? Only a moron doesn't realize people have to pay taxes. Thus, only a moron would change their politics when they start paying taxes.
No, I haven't changed. I still believe in peace, justice, a healthy environment, a government responsive to the needs of the people, tollerance -- all the things my mother (an 84 year old liberal) instilled in me.
I changed in 1992. Grew up in a highly conservative area of suburban Chicago...voted for Gerald Ford in 1976 during my first election....I changed my way of thinking after George HW said ';Read my lips';...I have had it with the ';my way or the highway'; brand of thinking that seems to be the conservative, aka Republican, mantra. Everyone has a valid opinion...some smarter than others....but it sure doesn't seem like that these days...No one is allowed to think independently these days without being lambasted by the other side. i am pretty sick of the intolerance....
Anyone who remains liberal past age 25 is either too poor to pay taxes, or too rich to care (and many rich avoid paying taxes).
Yes, I remember seeing the bottom line on my tax return the first year I had a 6 figure income - my income tax was almost double what my starting salary had been.
That Winston Churchill quote is stupid and a convenient reason to be self righteous for some cons. Sorry, I am not so selfish that use the amount I pay in taxes to determine my views. I haven't seen my taxes go up anyway, so what's your point?
Oh, and I was a republican until I was in my 30's. After practicing law for a while.
Give them a few more years under Obama, with cap and tax, the VAT tax , forced to pay health care at a higher rate than buying it now, they will soon come to understand. Once everyone is paying 40 - 50% of their pay to the federal government for all the spending , they will look at things differently.
That wasn't the only reason I turned conservative at 30; it was also a host of other things as well. It's called growing up, having a family, owning a home, working and changing my values.
Paying taxes has not changed my ability to differentiate between right and wrong.
A life-long 56 year old liberal.
And yet, conservatives in trailer parks don't pay taxes.
Where do libertarians play in your analogy? I’ve been libertarian long before I had to pay taxes.
I was raised a democrap , but started thinking for myself about age 28
they will never admit it...probably when they received their first high 6 figure paycheck......yikes,the gov. takes this much .................
Well it is certainly true that I am almost heartless.
I will save a special cigar for the man.
Liberals will never tax the things they love the most = sex
When sex are tax............liberals will start to protest the tax laws
I love that saying.
The Best Quote ever
That saying is so true!
i use to think i was a republican when i was like five cuz my fav color is red but then i learned bout nixon n i didnt want to b a crook so i changed when i was like seven lol
Former ignorant conservative here. Changed in my 30's to common sense (liberalism). 43 now.
